ANTIQUE TAJIKISTAN: DESCRIPTION

The five ‘Stans of the old Soviet Union are the least-known countries in Asia. As Khanates they remained insulated from all but the most adventurous soulswho rode with the camel caravans along the Silk Road. Even today they are among the least understood and mysterious countries on earth. The smallest, perhaps the most mysterious, but certainly the friendliest and the most physically dramatic is Tajikistan.

Our new trip for 2010 will take us on our own caravan across this ancient land. Travelling by Land Rover from the capital of Dushanbe we will traverse wild country and penetrate the Pamir Mountain Range, the most complex range of high peaks in the world. Following a brief, optional visit to the town of Sultan-Ishkashim within the Wakhan Corridor in Afghanistan, we will continue deep into the Pamirs. Our 8 day trek on trails seldom traveled by outsiders will be supported by pack animals and a full local camp staff. This will be a fascinating encounter with an antique land.
